Russland hat auf Befehl von Präsident Wladimir Putin die Ukraine angegriffen. Er spricht der demokratischen und unabhängigen Ukraine ihre Existenzberechtigung ab. Es herrscht Krieg in Europa. Wir sind in großer Sorge um unsere Freund:innen und Kolleg:innen und wir stehen in voller Solidarität hinter den Menschen in der Ukraine und hinter den Russ:innen, die sich gegen diesen Krieg aussprechen.

Mit unserer Arbeit und mit unseren Stimmen setzen wir uns für demokratische Werte ein, wollen friedlich Grenzen überwinden und die Welt verändern. Unsere Gedanken sind bei den Menschen in der Ukraine, die jetzt gerade gezwungen sind, ihre Freiheit und Demokratie in einem Krieg zu verteidigen. Fassungslos ringen wir um Worte, denken an das Leid und appellieren an alle Regierungen dieser Welt, deren höchstes Gut die Freiheit ist, den Menschen und der Demokratie in der Ukraine das Überleben zu ermöglichen. Wir verurteilen das System Putin und die konkreten Handlungen gegen jedes Menschen- und Völkerrecht, nicht aber Russland.

Wir möchten zum Spenden ermutigen:

  • Die Caritas baut Hilfezentren für ukrainische Binnenflüchtlinge auf – die Menschen werden mit Lebensmitteln und Hygieneartikeln, aber auch psychosozial versorgt. Hilfspakete der Caritas gibt es ab 25 Euro: IBAN: AT23 2011 1000 0123 4560 (Kennwort: Soforthilfe Ukraine).

  • Die Volkshilfe Österreich ist ebenfalls aktiv und kann unterstützt werden: IBAN AT77 6000 0000 0174 0400 (Verwendungszweck „Nothilfe Ukraine“)


Via Social Media kann man sich mit dem Hashtag #standwithukraine solidarisch zeigen. Dies sollte besonnen (und gut informiert) erfolgen, geben wir auch dem Gewaltvoyeurismus keine Chance. Wir sehen uns als Teil der Medienbranche, daher ist es uns auch wichtig darauf hinzuweisen, dass dafür die Quellen hinterfragt und Qualitätsmedien mit geprüften Informationen bevorzugt werden sollten.

Statement of the Austrian Film Academy on the war in Ukraine

Vienna, March 1st 2022

Russia has attacked Ukraine on the orders of President Vladimir Putin. He denies democratic and independent Ukraine its right to exist. There is war in Europe. We are deeply concerned about our friends and colleagues and we stand in full solidarity behind the people of Ukraine and the Russian citizens who are expressing their opposition to this war.

With our work and with our voices, we stand up for the values of democracy, want to peacefully overcome borders and change the world. Our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine who are forced to defend their freedom and democracy in a war right now. Totally perplexed, we are struggling for words, think of the suffering and appeal to all governments of this world, whose highest good is freedom, to allow the people and democracy in Ukraine to survive. We condemn the Putin system and the concrete actions against every human right and international law, but not Russia.

We would like to encourage donations:

  • Caritas is setting up aid centres for Ukrainian IDPs (internally displaced persons)—they are provided with food and hygiene articles, but also psychosocial care. Caritas aid packages are available from 25 euros: IBAN: AT23 2011 1000 0123 4560 (Keyword: Soforthilfe/Emergency aid Ukraine)

You can show your solidarity via social media with the hashtag #standwithukraine. This should be done prudently (and well informed); let’s also not give violence voyeurism a chance. We see ourselves as part of the media industry, so it is also important for us to point out that sources should be questioned for this and quality media with verified information should be preferred.
